As a 6th-8th grader, your child will choose from a number of elective classes in which to participate every term. Held twice a week on the school campus, electives focus on teaching new skills, activities or hobbies, and in some cases are service-oriented. Taught by West Hills faculty or parents with special skills, the selection of electives offered changes a bit each term, but past electives include:

  • Photography
  • Spring Musical
  • Christmas Ensemble
  • Calligraphy
  • Art
  • Computer robotics
  • Dissection lab
  • Sports
  • Knitting
  • Volunteer involvement with the local Loaves & Fishes program

Electives are really fun because the teachers offer all different genres of activities, from a dissection lab to painting and calligraphy. And all with your friends...it is awesome!

  • 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. and New York City
  • 7th grade trip to a Pacific Northwest landmark (the destination changes yearly, but past trips have included the Ape Caves, Pittock Mansion, Oregon Zoo, Hoyt Arboretum, etc.)
  • 7th/8th grade retreat
  • 6th grade Outdoor School
